چکیده

Evading the enemy radars plays a crucial role in today’s warfare. All weapon systems are designed with the aim of minimising their radar signature or Radar Cross Section (RCS). It would also be desirable to know the RCS of any potential target. However, RCS values are not publicly available. This paper examines the concept of estimating the RCS of a complex object, such as an aircraft, on the basis of available photos and videos. Initially, a basic 3D model is created, which is further refined, taking into account details shown in photos, with the help of CAD software. Consequently, a computational approach, based on Physical Optics, is employed to calculate the RCS of the final 3D model. The proposed method is applied to the F-16 and F-35 jet fighters, as well as the DF-15 ballistic missile, yielding plausible results. 1 Department of Aeronautical Sciences, Hellenic Air Force Academy, Dekelia Air Base, Attica, Greece. Modified Physical Optics Approximation for RCS Calculation of Electrically Large Objects with Coated Dielectric

The Radar Cross Section of a target plays an important role in the detection of targets by radars‎. ‎This paper presents a new method to predict the bistatic and monostatic RCS of coated electrically large objects. ‎The bodies can be covered by lossy electric and/or magnetic Radar Absorbing Materials (RAMs)‎. ‎These materials can be approximated by the Fresnel reflection coefficients‎. ‎The pro...

Cross Section Effects on Convergence-Confinement Method in Multi Stage Tunnel Excavation

Dimensionless coefficient () in convergence confinement method shows the relaxation of stress in the wall of the tunnel at different excavation movements. This factor is considered a constant number in previous studies and tunnel geometric characteristics (such as depth, cross-section shape, radius, soil material, etc.) are not included in its determination; however, ignoring these effects can...

Radar tomography for the generation of three-dimensional images - Radar, Sonar and Navigation, IEE Proceedings -

Computer-aided tomography is normally a process by which a 2D cross-sectional image of an object is otained by illuminating it from many different directions in a plane. For the case of radar imaging, microwave energy reflected by the object is processed to produce an image which maps the object’s radar cross-section (RCS) density into the image plane. Each observation provides a 1D projection ...

Monopole Antenna Radar Cross Section Reduction with Plasma Helix

In this paper, a new method for radar cross section reduction of a monopole antenna is proposed. In this method, a plasma helix like fluorescent bulbs is placed around the antenna element. The selected plasma parameter for this medium acts as an absorber without disturbing the antenna performance. The simulations show that radar cross section of simulated antenna is reduced in a wide frequency ...

Radar Cross Section Measurements and Simulations of a Model Airplane in the X-band

The objective of this study was to illustrate how different methods of obtaining the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of an object may produce different results. RCS diagrams of a metallic airplane model (length, 0.64 m) were obtained in an anechoic chamber, with a LabVolt RCS system, and simulated with a simulation software. The measurements and simulations were carried out at the radar frequency of ...
